Why Traffic School Is So Important

When a point is added to your driving record, it can stay there for years and often leads to higher auto insurance premiums. Even a single point may cause your insurance rates to increase significantly.

For eligible drivers, completing Traffic Violator School allows the court to mask the point from your public driving record, helping you:

  • Maintain a cleaner driving record
  • Reduce the risk of insurance rate increases
  • Avoid long-term financial consequences
  • Demonstrate responsible driving behavior

Traffic school isn’t just about completing a requirement it’s about protecting your future as a driver.

⚠️ Point masking and insurance impact depend on eligibility, court rules, and insurance carrier guidelines.

Common questions (with clear answers) to help you understand Fastrak Roadside Online Traffic School

How do I know my county or court will accept the Fastrak Roadside Traffic School program?

Fastrak Roadside Traffic School is a California DMV-licensed Traffic Violator School (TVS) and our course is DMV-approved for eligible tickets statewide. If you’d like to double-check, you can contact our support team or view our official DMV license on our website.

Why do people take traffic school after getting a ticket?

In California, completing traffic school for an eligible ticket can prevent the conviction from impacting your public driving record (as reported to insurers), which helps many drivers avoid insurance rate increases. It can also refresh your knowledge of current laws and defensive driving habits to help you avoid future tickets.

How long does Fastrak Roadside Online Traffic School take to complete?

Our online course is self-paced, so you can move as quickly or slowly as you want. While it’s designed to meet California DMV traffic school requirements (commonly referenced as an 8-hour course), many students finish faster depending on reading speed and learning style and others prefer to complete it over a few days.

I have a commercial driver license and got a ticket. Can I take traffic school to hide the point from my driving record?

If you hold a CDL and the violation happened in a non-commercial vehicle, you may be eligible to take traffic school (depending on court and ticket eligibility). However, the conviction may still appear and count as a point until it’s processed, and you must contact the DMV Mandatory Actions Unit (MAU) to request that the point be masked from your driving record, preferably by emailing dmvcdltvs@dmv.ca.gov with your driver's license number included, or by calling (916) 657-6525 (longer wait times)
